In the US last week, 9 heavily-armed "wildlife protection" officials stormed a no-kill shelter in the state of Wisconsin to drag out and kill a fawn who had been brought in by concerned people. Each year countless pigeons are netted and transported from city streets to the gun clubs of Pennsylvania where gun enthusiasts can pay to shoot them. In many cases, pigeons are illegally captured in New York and New Jersey and trafficked across state lines to Pennsylvania. Did you veganpeople hear about the Spanish activists arrested at the end of June for a 2007 release of 20,000 minks on fur farms in Spain? Although the activists arrested did not condemn the act, they did deny it - they are part of two organizations, Equanimal and Animal Equality, who regularly perform open rescues ( Read more... )

I have started to send mass emails out to people on craigslist that list pets free to good homes. I am urging them to reconsider giving their pet to a no-kill shelter or demanding an adoption fee from perspective adopters.
I hope it is just ignorance that keeps people from realizing free pets go to labs, mills, and dissections.

I'm a fortnight late with this one, but the consulation exercise is still very much ongoing.  The British government is soliciting healthy recipes for school meal plans.  The Vegan Society is encouraging vegans to email the government with their recommendations:
